 The radiographer should be aware of the permissible dose limits. Always keep the radiation dose within limits. The following rules should be followed to keep radiation dose to minimize in radiology department.
1) During the x-ray positioning, Correct patient & correct part of region should be exposed.
2) Patient should be properly instructed about the necessary preparation required.
3) Patient should be explained what he is required to do during examination.
4) Equipment should be in good working order.
5) Patient should be immobilized in comfortable position during exposure using sand bags, pads, etc.
6) Radiographer should select proper exposure factor to avoid repeat examination.
7) Field of radiation should be limited to the minimum by using cones, diaphragm and collimators.
8) Care should be taken to exclude radiation regions from radiation using gonad shields and modification of projection to reduce radiation dose to lense and thyroid gland.
9) in pregnancy, the radiographer should not done x-ray of abdomen and pelvis unless there are main clinical reasons.
10) During exposure, if the patient is needed to hold in particular position, the attendants should be ask to hold not a Radiographer or another nurse should hold the patient.
11) Attenders should wear lead apron.
12) Radiographer should stand behind the lead shield barrier during  exposure.
13) The radiographer should always used radiation monitoring badges ( TLD ).
